Lar\u00adry Wall<\/a>, cre\u00adator of the pro\u00adgram\u00adming lan\u00adguage Perl, is a Chris\u00adt\u00adian. In a recent inter\u00adview on Slash\u00addot<\/a> he was asked the fol\u00adlow\u00ading ques\u00adtion:<\/p>\n

I remem\u00adber read\u00ading at some point that you are a Chris\u00adt\u00adian, and there have been sug\u00adges\u00adtions that some of your ear\u00adly mis\u00adsion\u00adary impuls\u00ades (a desire to do good, help oth\u00aders) are per\u00adhaps part of the zeal you have put into Perl over the years. <\/p>\n

Pre\u00adfer\u00adring a sci\u00aden\u00adtif\u00adic view, I am not reli\u00adgious, and have no desire to be. Per\u00adhaps there is a God, but if there is, I think he\/she has no oppos\u00adable thumbs; in oth\u00ader words, has no pow\u00ader to change any\u00adthing; real\u00adi\u00adty is just play\u00ading out accord\u00ading to the laws of physics (what\u00adev\u00ader those are). <\/p>\n

Please tell us how in the world a sci\u00aden\u00adtif\u00adic or at least tech\u00adni\u00adcal mind can believe in God, and what role reli\u00adgion has played in your work on Perl. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
