A group of stu\u00addents and par\u00adents from the Lan\u00adg\u00adley School in McLean was on safari at the Masai Mara Nation\u00adal Reserve, where Man\u00adtaine\u2019s father is a game war\u00adden.<\/i><\/p>\n

That\u2019s when some\u00adone from the vil\u00adlage told a Lan\u00adg\u00adley teacher about Man\u00adtaine\u2019s heart prob\u00adlem. From there, things seemed to unfold quick\u00adly.<\/p>\n

The teacher, Joseph Leku\u00adton, knew that one of the par\u00adents was a Fair\u00adfax Coun\u00adty heart sur\u00adgeon. He also knew that peo\u00adple of the Masai vil\u00adlage, who did\u00adn\u2019t own much, had sold 14 cows last year to raise mon\u00adey to donate to relief efforts in the Unit\u00aded States after the Sept. 11 ter\u00adror attacks.<\/p>\n

So he helped launch a camp\u00adfire dis\u00adcus\u00adsion about the Masai gift and about what a group of peo\u00adple from an Amer\u00adi\u00adcan sub\u00adurb could do to return a kind\u00adness.<\/p>\n
