The author lost his faith while an under\u00adgrad and regained it after attain\u00ading his doc\u00adtor\u00adate, and he\u2019s packed this book full of extreme\u00adly prac\u00adti\u00adcal advice!<\/p>\n The Diver\u00adsi\u00adty Myth<\/a> by Peter Thiel and David Sacks.<\/b> This book is all about Stan\u00adford and its agen\u00adda when it comes to reed\u00adu\u00adcat\u00ading stu\u00addents (writ\u00adten by two Stan\u00adford grads). I need to pref\u00adace my rec\u00adom\u00admen\u00adda\u00adtion with sev\u00ader\u00adal dis\u00adclaimers: you should keep in mind that these guys have a huge ide\u00ado\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal axe to grind and that there are always two sides to every sto\u00adry. In addi\u00adtion, the book is about a decade old, and so some of the details are no longer accu\u00adrate. Final\u00adly, they\u2019re not writ\u00ading from a Chris\u00adt\u00adian per\u00adspec\u00adtive. Even after all those qual\u00adi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions, I rec\u00adom\u00admend that you read this book before you show up for your first day at Stan\u00adford. This is one of the best books I\u2019ve ever read. Some peo\u00adple find it dense, and if you fall into that cat\u00ade\u00adgo\u00adry I rec\u00adom\u00admend The Life You\u2019ve Always Want\u00aded<\/a> as an alter\u00adnate. Either of these books will help you learn a life-chang\u00ading lesson\u2013that there\u2019s a dif\u00adfer\u00adence between try\u00ading to be like Jesus and train\u00ading to be like Jesus. If all you do is try, you can kiss your faith good\u00adbye once you go to col\u00adlege.
