{"id":966,"date":"2002-08-05T10:00:32","date_gmt":"2002-08-05T18:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2002\/08\/05\/funding-evangelical-scholarship\/"},"modified":"2002-08-05T10:00:32","modified_gmt":"2002-08-05T18:00:32","slug":"funding-evangelical-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glenandpaula.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2002\/08\/05\/funding-evangelical-scholarship","title":{"rendered":"Funding Evangelical Scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/faithmaps.blogspot.com\/\">Emergesque<\/a> just turned me on to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianitytoday.com\/ct\/2002\/008\/3.42.html\">great article about evangelicals in academia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The articles focuses on the necessity of large foundations (especially the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lilly.com\/about\/community\/foundation\/endowment.html\">Lilly Endowment<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewtrusts.com\/\">Pew Charitable Trusts<\/a>) to provide funding for evangelical scholars (things like research and sabbaticals cost&nbsp;money!)<\/p>\n<p>Something I find pretty interesting: the evangelical scholars seem to be good investments: \u201cAs measured by scholarly productivity, foundations supporting evangelical scholarship have received an unusually high return on their investment. A study by the National Endowment for the Humanities found that 45 percent of their grant recipients had published books within six years of receiving their grants. By contrast, a study of scholars receiving grants from the Pew Evangelical Scholars Program found that 90 percent had finished their books within six&nbsp;years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/issues\/2000\/10\/wolfe.htm\">related article from 2000<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/\">The Atlantic Monthly<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Emergesque just turned me on to a great article about evangelicals in academia.
