There are two books by two different scholars referenced in the above article: Daniel Dreisbach\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/081471935X\/qid=1028737907\/sr=8-4\/ref=sr_8_4\/103-9697895-5651839\">Thomas Jefferson and The Wall of Separation Between Church and State<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0674007344\/ref=pd_sbs_b_1\/103-9697895-5651839\">Separation of Church and State<\/a> by Philip Hamburger.<\/p>\n<p><i>Alan Wolfe, director of the Boisi Center for Religion and Public Life at Boston College, is impressed by the new findings but doubts they can make a difference.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>     \u201cI think it is terrific scholarship, but I don\u2019t think it can change anything,\u201d said Mr. Wolfe, who reviewed the Hamburger book and has surveyed public opinion on politics and religion.<\/p>\n<p>     \u201cThe \u2018wall\u2019 idea has taken on a life of its own and is part of our custom and law,\u201d Mr. Wolfe said. \u201cAmericans love God and hate politics, so they ask, \u2018Why mix the&nbsp;two?\u2019&nbsp;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can read some reviews from Harvard University Press <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hup.harvard.edu\/reviews\/HAMSEP_R.html\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hup.harvard.edu\/catalog\/HAMSEP.html\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here\u2019s an interesting tidbit reported by The Washington Times: Thomas Jefferson did not want a wall built between church and state.
