Hospitality Central

Dana has been getting quite confused–it seems that every morning she wakes up to find someone new in the house.

Four nights ago Andrew spent the night. Three nights ago it was Katie. Two nights ago it was Will & Jen Klier (incidentally, I helped them set up a new WordPress blog while they were here: TheKliers).

And in that whole mix we went out to lunch twice with alumni: Gareth and Elizabeth.

She’s warmed up to everyone pretty quickly, but I suspect that today she’ll be happier since this morning arrives without strangers and we’re not planning to travel anywhere.

New photos of Dana

Punk Rock DanaI have just added a few new photos of Dana to the photo gallery. They do not do her justice, she is truly cute and funny.

Everyone Has A Blog…

There’s a few small things I’ve been meaning to post for a while, but that I just haven’t gotten around to:

One of our students, Alan Asbeck, was featured on television for a patent application involving a wall-climbing robot. How cool is that?

My pastor has a blog now: check out Scott Aughtmon at Random Ramblings of a Church Gatherer.

In fact, more and more of my friends are blogging.

And those are just people that I actually have a real-life, 3D relationship with. If you count people I’ve met at conferences (such as Andrew Careaga) or in passing (like Mark Batterson), the list would be ridiculously longer.

Happy Birthday, Paula Kay!

For the record, today is Paula’s birthday. Feel free to email or call her with good wishes.

I love you, Paula–have a great day!

In-Laws

My in-laws are on a cruise to Hawaii, and their cruise ship is currently on a day excursion.

Where do they go?

Wal-Mart.

For the record, this is not an aberration. Once we were all in New Orleans together and they decided we would go eat at Denny’s.

Wal-Mart in Hawaii and Denny’s in New Orleans. My in-laws ARE red-state America.

On The Facebook

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this on my website, but I’m on the Facebook.

I bring this up for two reasons:

  1. If you’re a new student coming to Stanford feel free to scope us (Chi Alpha) out online. Also check xaStanford.org and Chi Alpha on the Facebook. Feel free to join our Facebook group without any sense of long-term obligation.
  2. If I’ve met you at a conference or something you can feel free to add me as a Facebook friend. Just do a global search for Glen Davis at Stanford (the global search link is at the top of the page under the fa in facebook).

Half Blind In Bangkok

I’ve been meaning to mention this for a while, but my brother is half-blind in Bangkok right now. He’s on a mission trip and got some sort of infection behind his eyeball (yuck).

It sounds like he’s going to be A‑OK, but I’m sure it’s quite disturbing to fall ill in another country. Especially a non-Western one.

On the plus side, he had travel insurance and so everything is paid for. It’s far better for him financially than it would have been in America. And whatever he has isn’t something he got in Thailand–it was developing before he left.

Anyway, he should be coming back this weekend. Until then, I’ll keep thinking about Murray Head’s One Night In Bangkok.

Dana The Demander

Dana (who has new photos up on our gallery, although the one you see is from the Chi Alpha @ Stanford gallery) has been developing more and more of a demanding personality lately.

The one that amuses me the most concerns her cereal. She has a bag of Cheerios that contains some dried strawberries and blueberries. She’s decided that she likes those much more than the little toroids, and so she’s begin eating just the fruit and then screaming at us in the hopes that we will produce more dried fruit. In the event that we don’t immediately bring forth said fruit, she begins scattering her Cheerios over the floor.

She’s also very particular about when she wants to be picked up.

All in all, it’s very charming. It can get draining, but it’s really quite charming.

Surprise Birthday Party

When I returned from church today I was genuinely shocked to find a house full of students waiting to wish me a happy birthday.

I was touched.

Also, I got one of the coolest gifts I’ve gotten in a long time. One of my students took a picture of me playing with Dana, developed it herself, and framed it. It’s the kind of photo I’ll probably wind up keeping on my desk until I don’t have a desk anymore.

Thanks to everyone for the Apples To Apples game, to Jin for baking the cakes, to Desirae for shopping, and to Karen for the photo. Thanks to Paula for organizing the whole deceptive shindig and to whoever did the decorating. I’m sure other people did things I don’t know about, and I’m grateful to them as well.

It was just great.

Birthday Desires

As a service to my friends and family, I gladly provide the following birthday wishlists:

Glen’s Amazon Wishlist (mostly books, although some other stuff is there as well)

Glen’s General Wishlist (stuff not for sale on Amazon)

As always, these are just my everyday “I want to get these someday” lists. They haven’t been especially concocted for my birthday or anything. So some things might seem odd. Or even bizarre.
