Shaowei’s Talk on Science and Religion

Shaowei’s talk on the rela­tion­ship between sci­ence and reli­gion went real­ly well last night.

Around 55 peo­ple showed up in the Oka­da Tea Room and lis­tened intent­ly as Shaowei laid out his thoughts for them.

Shaowei did a great job, and I saw sev­er­al peo­ple engaged in very seri­ous dis­cus­sion after­wards (Shaowei got them think­ing in a major way).

Woohoo!

Shaowei’s talk was inspired by a paper he wrote for one of his class­es and has put on his web­site: Is There Room For God in Sci­ence?

He even has a sec­tion of his web­site devot­ed to Chi Alpha. Aww…

  1. Of course there is room for God in Sci­ence! Why are we here to think these things if not for him? Sci­ence can be used in two ways,in my estimation.#1,For search­ing the way God done some of the things he did,and #2,for the ugly idea that there is no God and all search has to exclude him.
    God says in the Bible to believe in him and to RUN from sin and he will bless us beyond our imag­i­na­tion.
    Chris­tian­i­ty is more than a belief in God,why else would he say that the fall­en angels believe and tremble.Christianity is a learn­ing process,or should be for each of us.The first step on the road to heaven.Science is a learn­ing of what we can see and touch in reality.Christanity is a learn­ing of the Spir­i­tu­al Man,or Woman if you prefer.The two are sep­a­rate but are real­ly one.Or as the Apos­tle Paul says,“one is Spiritual,the oth­er is Flesh”.But both are with­in my body.
    If we study Sci­ence removed from God then what we learn will be a lie.Newtons Laws,Einsteins Rel­a­tiv­i­ty or any oth­er the­o­ry will be a lie unless God is there.You can­not tell me New­ton or Ein­stein was not right in their assumptions,but at the same time you can­not say they were total­ly wrong either.
    God says to his peo­ple that he will bless them beyond imagination,period.The Sci­en­tist that is his peo­ple may bring forth a The­o­ry that is unques­tion­ably true,or maybe that indi­vid­ual will be blessed in Life.I can­not say.But what i will say is he or she will be blessed beyond imagination.Whatever the bless­ing will be is up to the Lord,but it will be one that is enjoy­able to the individual.The Bible says to you or me that God is supreme,and Satan is second.Satan has pow­er that i can­not imagine.So why would i think he is not in the place of high­er learning?Look around you and you will see a much high­er degree of Satan than God in peo­ple as well as the things we do.
